Local Vicinity - Cypress Island

A trip sign-up sheet will be posted in the trips area near registration.

Provided by Steve Sprague

This guided trip starts with a half hour boat ride to Cypress Island, one of the islands of the San Juan Island group. On arrival, the boat will beach at the trail head and the route will gain a little over 750 feet elevation in about a mile and a half of trail.

Cypress is almost entirely publicly owned and there are miles of trails that wend their way around the island. Recently, a number of small earth crack caves were found by members of the Cascade Grotto. We have applied for a special use permit and, if approved, guided exploration will be available.  The main highlights of this trip are the boat ride, the walk through a Pacific Northwest forest and the fantastic views from the top of Eagle Cliff.

The trip will depart from the convention site. This is different than the previously stated boat ramp location. The particular location and time will be on the trip sign-up sheet.

The trip will be about 6 hour’s duration once we leave the boat ramp. Bring a flashlight, raingear, a daypack, extra food, water and good walking shoes for the hike.

Trip limit: 8 people. People under 12 years old or small stature need to arrange for a life jacket that fits them prior to the trip. Adult life jackets will be provided.
