Salons
The
2006 Convention is proud to present a full range
of cave art salons. These salons draw artists
and photographers from all over the world in a
first class display of creativity. Information
on participating in these Salons is available on
the NSS Salons Pages listed To the right. Or
just join us in Bellingham and enjoy!
Slide, Multimedia and Video Salons
The Thursday evening Slide and Video Salon will
be held in Bellingham's Mt. Baker Theater, 2.2
miles from the Western Washington University
Campground. Join us in air-conditioned
comfort for an amazing evening of
cave slides,
multi-media progams, and videos.
Cave Ballad Salon
Cave ballads come in an eclectic mix of
forms and styles; whether it's new words for
existing songs, original words and music, or
avant-garde; whether it's pop, rock, folk,
country, blues, classical, or new age, the
Caves Ballad Salon draws them all. Attend
the awards session to hear this year's entries
and winners. Or drop by the listening room later
in the week and relax to both old and new.
Fine Arts
Exhibition of drawings, paintings, sculpture,
and other art forms not covered in the other
salons. The
Fine Arts Salon
brings together artists from
around the country and the world to display
their art. This year we will be presenting
the fine art salon at the
Western
Gallery.
Print Salon
The photographic print offers a different
viewing experience from that provided by slides.
These prints come in photographic color, digital
color, and black and white. Spend as much time
as you want on each. Discuss them with your
friends. Think about how you would have taken
the same picture. The
Print Salon will be here for you to enjoy at
the
Western Gallery.
Cover Art Salon
Newsletter editors continuously hound
their friends for cover material. This gentle
harassment often produces wonderful
photographic, non-photographic, and computer
enhanced images. The
Cover Art Salon will feature newsletter
covers from NSS affiliated organizations.
T-Shirt Salon
Cavers often wear their passion for caves on
their chests. The
T-Shirt Salon will display t-shirts from
caving organizations, camps, and expeditions
throughout the world.
Symbolic Emblem Salon
Pins, patches, decals, and other devices
identify a caver's affiliations and interests,
as well as providing yet another outlet for
unbounded creativity. They'll all be on display
in the
Symbolic Emblem Salon.
Cartographic Salon
Survey and cartography have always been a
major focus of the NSS. Long hours underground
in cramped and uncomfortable positions are
followed by long hours hunched over computer and
drafting table. Both art and tool, the cave map
combines useful and accurate information with
the artistry of presentation. The
Cartography Salon
will feature the finest in
cave and karst maps, presented in the
Huxley
Map Library.
