Welcome:
First Aid Information
Hi,
I'm Robert Mitchell and I'm responsible for
coordinating general first aid coverage at the
2006 convention.
The convention this year is being held in the
middle of the city of Bellingham,
Washington. So the convention is closeto local
and national chain pharmacies. It is also within
a couple miles of Saint Joseph Hospital. I
will try to have information available at
registration for the locations of the hospital
and the closest pharmacies.
Even though I should have a tiny budget for
supplies, some of the supplies will likely be
provided by volunteers. So I ask that
every family who attends the convention pack
a few things amongst the suitcases. This list is
not complete but might be a good start for a
general "camping kit".
1) At least a weeks worth of any prescription
medications you or your family uses. Or, copies
of your current prescriptions.
2) Any over the
counter medications (aspirin, Tylenol, Imodium,
allergy medications, etc.) you or your family
may need since Washington state regulations
limit what a first aid station can offer.
3) Sunscreen.
Even though this area is known as the great
pacific north-wet. The Washington UFO (the big
yellow ball) is still hiding behind the clouds
and the UV rays still leak through.
4) A collection
of Band-Aids, antibiotic cream, burn cream, and
so on.
Finally, keep hydrated, (caffeine and alcohol
may taste good but do a lousy job of "hydrating"
you). Keep cool during the day. Keep
covered from the sun. Keep warm at night.
Take care of yourself and keep an eye on your
friends.
Last but not
least, have fun! I'm hoping to because a
happy first aider is a bored first aider. |
